A call to wake up!

Recently Delhi High court dishonored IPC section 377. The section was read down to decriminalize same-sex behavior among consenting adults in a historic judgment by the High Court of Delhi on 2 July 2009.

Especially, from that day onwards it became a matter of debate within both religious & political circle. Though it got this much wider attention this time, I am sure this is not a new topic in the country. Though started as isolated incidents, topic such as homosexuality is very common in fashion & entertainment industry. Many eyebrows rose when Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley came out publicly with her support to homosexuals in a rally organized in Delhi. Media started searching gay icon in Bollywood stars such as Abhishek Bachan & John Abraham as a latest trend. Though in India these are new of its trend, western countries already accepted & absorbed these in their daily life. Many countries (eg: Australia) legalized same sex marriages. Though Bollywood actors are relatively new to this homosexuality world, Hollywood icons are already there for a long time. Lindsay Lohan, a Hollywood actress declared her love with Samantha Ronson, a disc jockey.

If media stood for correcting the society in olden days & played crucial role in India’s independence, twenty first century media stands only for business profit. Media tycoons eye the business revolving around the youngsters after glamorizing anything & everything, whether right or wrong. This is the same media, fashion & entertainment world which glamorized live-in-relationship, dating & night clubs & so became part of Indian metropolitan cities today, even among Malayalis.

Many think homosexuality is very much natural and support their view with incidents occurred before thousands of centuries. Our scientists spend day-nights to come with more explanation on this orientation. They discovered same sex orientation is there not only in human beings but also in many other species such as monkey, lion, etc. And so being a natural phenomena & having right to live in one’s own way, it should be respected as heterosexual orientation.

I think, more we are educated more we are confused. Genesis 1: 26 says, Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness, so they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the earth.” 1:27 God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.

God created man as master of all others. But today we started comparing ourselves to the behavior of animals & taking support from there. Continuing to Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply! Fill the earth and subdue it! Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that moves on the ground.” Is it possible to be fruitful & multiply with homosexual behavior?

Science has grown to the space & then to the cloning. Even after this much of growth in science & technologies, Thomas Beatie, who became a man after underwent a sexual reassignment, had to conceive artificially when his wife could not bear. That means even after Thomas Beatie became a man to our world, he remained as a woman in the eyes of God. God created man & woman but not man & man or woman & woman.

It is visible in the history of man, whenever man went against the order of nature, god punished in one or another way. HIV virus, originated in Africa, in human beings is also nothing but a punishment for his immoral activities. Most HIV researchers agree that HIV evolved from the closely related Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV), and that HIV was transferred from non-human primates to humans in the recent past. Today study already proved AIDS cases are proportionally higher in homosexuals than heterosexuals.

Now let us see what exactly IPC 377 says. Chapter XVI, Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code was introduced during British rule of India in 1860 by Lord Macaulay that criminalises sexual activity "against the order of nature." It reads: Unnatural offences: Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

What Bible says on unnatural practices?

Leviticus 18:22-23: You must not have sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a woman; it is a detestable act.

Leviticus 20:13: If a man has sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a woman, the two of them have committed an abomination.

The entire chapter of Genesis 19 is about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah due to their behavior against the God.

Romans 1:24 Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves. 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones, 1:27 and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in their passions for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 1:28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done.

1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, 6:10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God. 6:11 Some of you once lived this way. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Jude 1:7 So also Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire in a way similar to these angels, are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity, 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, 5:21 envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God! 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 5:23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

This Delhi high court order has much wider reach to the society than what we might have estimated such as affecting school life, hostel life and even public life. Church should take serious efforts to control this modern trend of sin-fashion & social evil through creating godly fear & by establishing rehabilitation centers for counseling. There should be efforts to minimize the effect of media on the society. We are living in an era where man lives for media but not media for man. Church should be able to control this influence when media glamorizing society with Bollywood & Hollywood icons. Don’t be too late; time is challenging our foundation itself. Any crack on this foundation will destroy the entire society.

Mathew.11: 20 Then Jesus began to criticize openly the cities in which he had done many of his miracles, because they did not repent. 11:21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 11:22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you! 11:23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be thrown down to Hades! For if the miracles done among you had been done in Sodom, it would have continued to this day. 11:24 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you!”

Genesis 18:32 Finally Abraham said, “May the Lord not be angry so that I may speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He replied, “I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.”

This is a call to wake up! May god lead us!
