Metropolitan laid to rest

 

11 April 2011, Manginikkara, Kerala: In an atmosphere filled with emotional feelings of thousands of people assembled Manjanikkara Mor Ignatius Dayro, the mortal remains of Mor Julius Kuriakose Metropolitan was laid to rest yesterday (11 April 2011) at 04:30 P.M. The late Metropolitan was the Senior Metropolitan of the Simhasana (Patriarchal) churches/Institutions in India) and Former Secretary to His Holiness Patriarch.

 

 

The funeral service started at 10.00 AM. Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I led the service. At the end of the funeral service, the Catholicose Aboon Mor Baselious Thomas I labeled the body with Holy Oil (Zayto) and covered the face with `shushefo' veil. Patriarchal representatives, Mor Koorilos Aphrem Karim (Patriarchal Vicar for Eastern U.S.A.), Mor Theethos Yeldho ((Metropolitan of the Malankara Archdiocese of North America)and Metropolitans of Syriac orthodox Churches in Malankara assisted Catholicose at the funeral service.


Condolence messages of His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas was read by Mor Gregorios Joseph (Metropolitan of Kochi Diocese & Malankara Episcopal Synod Secretary).

 

 

Metropolitans of sister Churches and Thousands of people thronged the Manjanikkara Mor Ignatius Dayro, on last two days to pay last respects to the departed father.

His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I, Metropolitans Their Graces Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan (Western USA), Dr. Mor Coorilos Geevarghese (Niranam, UK), Mor Themotheos Samuel Aktas (Tur-Abdin), Mor Philoxenos Yusuf Ceytin (Istanbul), Dr. Mor Julius Hanna Iyden (Germany), Mor Dioscoros Benjamin Aktas (Sweden) condoled on the demise of Dr. Mor Julius.

Mor Julius Kuriakose Enters Eternal Rest


Mor Julius Kuriakose (Senior Metropolitan of the Simhasana (Patriarchal) churches/Institutions in India) and Former Secretary to His Holiness Patriarch Enters Eternal Rest at Manjinikkara at 4:15 PM today the 09th April 2011. His Eminence was 78. The mortal remains of the Late Metropolitan is presently kept in Mor Ignatius Dayaro, Manjanikkara. Funeral expected to be on at Manjanikkara Dayaro on April 11 Monday.

 

Mor Julius was born on 06 July 1933 at Kuttanad. His Eminence was ordained as Kassesso on 21 September 1958 at Manjanikkara Dayaro by Mor Julius Elias, the Patriarchal Delegate and Metropolitan by His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas on 27 September 1998 at Damascus. Mor Julius served as the First Secretary to His Holiness from 1984 till 2004. Mor Julius was awarded Honorary Doctorates, Doctor of Divinity & Sacred Philosophy by Indo American University of Humanistic Studies, USA and Doctor of Theology from Diondra University, Italy.

The sacerdotal Golden Jubilee of priesthood of Mor Julius was celebrated at Kunnamkulam on 2008 October 08.

Pope Shenouda welcomes dialogue with Al-Azhar and Salafis

28 March 2011, Cairo, Egypt: Pope Shenouda III, the Coptic Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, met on Monday with Minister of Local Development Mohsen al-Nomani at the Papal Headquarters in Abassiya to discuss the latest developments on the political scene in Egypt.

Shenouda said a number of important topics were discussed during the meeting, including the suggestion of engaging in a community dialogue with various religious movements, namely the Coptic Church, Al-Azhar, the Salafi movement and other public figures.

The proposed dialogue would be held under the auspices of Vice Prime Minister Yehia al-Gamal and would roam the various governorates to help build a platform for constructive and purposeful interaction, which would ultimately benefit the country.
Shenouda said he welcomed the suggestion.

A blast rocks St Mary's Syriac Orthodox church Lebanon's Zahle's industrial district.

27 March 2011, Beirut:  A bomb targeted a Syriac Orthodox church in the eastern city of Zahle's industrial district at dawn Sunday, causing heavy material damage.

The bomb, which consisted of about two kilograms (4.4 pounds) of TNT, was placed at the side entrance of St Mary's Syriac Orthodox church, told AFP. The device went off at 4:15 am (0115 GMT).

The National News Agency said the 2-kilogram TNT explosives were controlled by a mobile phone.

Media reports said the blast blew up St Mary's Church's door and damaged benches. Shrapnel reached the altar, they added. Seven cars parked nearby were also damaged. No one ....Continue reading

Lebanon's Maronite Church Elects New Patriarch.

25 March 2011, Bkrike: Patriarch His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas  congratulated His Beatitude Bishara Al-Rai on his election as the new Maronite Patriarch. In his congratulatory message, His Holiness wished the new Patriarch all success in leading the Maronite Church for many years.

His Holiness also delegated Mor Theophilose George Saliba - Archbishop of Mt. Lebanon and secretary to the Holy Episcopal Synod to participate in the enthronement ceremony of the new Patriarch which was held at the Maronite Centre in Bkirke on March 25th.

Patriarch Beshara al-Rai succeeded Patriarch Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir who retired last month after leading the country’s Maronite Catholic Church for 25 years.
